Right, installed the game and it works pretty much as you would expect, except for the fact that absolutely no ingame text is displayed. The bitmap text works fine, but the dialogue and what not simply doesn't show up. Any idea what might cause this?

Installed the game through applocale, and am running it through it as well, so that shouldn't be the issue here.

I'm only hazarding a guess here, but I may most probably be wrong - even if you run applocale and use japanese settings, you might not be able to see the text if you do not have East Asian languages installed in your regional settings.

Ctrl panel > Regional & Language Settings > Languages Tab > CheckBox for "Install East Asian Language". These steps are for Windows XP only.

Just a thought, and as I said, I might be wrong.. Any other takers?

Did you install to the default directory? Some illusion games have trouble on non-japanese OS if the install path contains any Japanese characters, even if system language is set to Japanese.

Just set your region to Japan.

well on win 7 , i had installed the Optional Japanese Language Pack before installing Japanese games , so i just changed on the regional settings the unicode to Japanese , rebooted and installed and played with not problems ( this on a 64bit win 7 version )

Ps.: not that if you revert unicode to the normal one , homemate wont boot ( you will have a nice illusion english message saying they not sell the game outside Japan )
