Hi everyone.. I'm not quite sure if this topic goes in this part of the forum but here goes- I was just wondering if anyone can perhaps recommend a really good j-rock band. The only two band's i've listened to are Gackt and The Pillows... quite a small selection don't you think? I just wanted to know if there are any really really good bands out there that might stir up some interest.

Here are some american bands that i like listening to. Perhaps someone can match a good J-rock band that sounds similar to the ones that i list.

Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Cure
Radiohead
NIN
TOOL
A Perfect Circle
Deftones
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Well thanks in advance to all who read and reply. :p

I can post a "mega torrent" file if you want to listen to those bands

Yeah i'd love to sample those bands, if it's not too much trouble to you. I've also noticed one thing with Japan band websites. Either i don't understand what it's trying to say.. or they refuse to have some kind of place you can sample their music. Really... :/ how else am i suppose to listen to see if they're good haha.

here are some very common ones ... some border on J-Goth, depending on the song.

X-Japan
L'arc en ciel
Dir en grey
Malice Mizer

sample their music using emule, or kazaa-lite. Download a few songs, see if you like it or not before grabbing entire bittorent packs.

B'z
Mr. Children
X-Japan
Porno Graffitti
L'arc en Ciel
Glay
Luna Sea

I can't think of any other bands that are more popular than those in Japan (J-Rock-wise).

The Mad Capsule Markets are my favourite band on Earth (luckily they've toured Europe so I've got to see them 3 times :P) - their older albums are old fashioned punk but if thats not your thing they're very different now...digital-techno-punk-rap-pop etc, but they've got some pretty heavy songs (try Tribe/Come/Bit Crusherrrr etc) as well as more upbeat and laid back songs...Osc-Dis and Cistm Konfliqt are probably their best albums imo.

I can't tell the difference between types of music, neh. >.>

But, just for the record, here're some that haven't been mentioned. Some I don't like, but it mostly just depends on the song. Ahaah, well, I /think/ they're all speaking Japanese. Haven't listened too closely to some.

Rentrer en Soi
Baiser
Guniw Tools

Hi... new here... If you like punk rock, might I suggest 'Ellegarden'. Half there songs are in english, and quite good english too. Sounds very american. Infact if you heard the english tracks, you wouldn't guess they were Japanese at all. I liken them to Simple Plan.

I'd love to hear something on par with Mando Diao but I think thats pushing my luck

Cheers

well i give you a high five for your list of american music, seeing your smarter than the average person with it. um a japanese band with radiohead influence who has even mentioned it in several interviews is my favorite band, "the back horn". i recommend anything from "doko e yuku" their first cd to the most recent release "headphone children." but if you want that radiohead sound, i say start from the beginning. if you need any help finding them, just PM me or ask 13ender. 13ender is one of the coolest people you will meet on this forum, hes the only person who opened an entire personal archive of j-rock for me and is responsible for 90% of what i listen to on a daily basis.

also like i have stated before, i also recommend "thee michelle gun elephant" and chiba's (the singer) new band, "rosso." Anything else you can ask me anytime, im happy to share my jrock hard drive with ya.

I recommend "Coil," the band responsible for the tunes from Gitaroo Man. Really good stuff, but on a different pace than Asian Kung Fu Generation.

But there some great Japanese metalcore and punkrock bands like Crossfaith, fact,UPPER,F.I.B,RAZORS EDGE,TOTALFAT,FUCK YOUR HERO'S,Boris(who by the way have a wide array of sounds from psychedelic, metal, to hard rock) A really talented 3 piece band. After the dying,ANTHEM, BBQ Chicken,Galneryus. And at one time a Band called Mucc was once very primal in there sound kind of like early Korn but now...not so awesome. you can most of these bands from Livejournal pages and this site [url]http://www.undermusik.com/search?q=upper (this is where you can get the metalcore and hard punk from)
