The Hopping Vampire

I know this isn't quite an asian film, but bear with me.
Oh. My. God.
It's one of the scariest films I've seen in a long, long time. If you like ghost stories, you should definately see this film. I've heard some people complaining about how it has been "Americanized" by the inclusion of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Bill Paxton, but I don't really think so. At heart, it is still a Japanese supernatural horror film, very much in the kaidan genre.
Anyone interested in Japanese style ghost stories should check this film out, but don't skip over the original Ju-On: The Grudge, which is also fantastic.
Hopping Vampire.

i think the japanese one is really confusing it jumps to diffrent scene too much....but the woman comming down the stairs was always scary -_-;
americanized...made it really creepy...that is what they do best ;)

i though it was pretty creepy too. the first scary scene was the best. that had my hair standing on it's end :cool: i think with sarah, it made the movie more scary. they're a stranger in a strange land with a language barrier. how helpless can they get?

Ju-on is great, even the sequal is wicked, especially the "I hit this bag against a telephone cell which is filled with something gruesome" scene. Together with One Missed Call and Audition the best Japanese shockers.

I thought the Japanese version was far superior. Sarah Michelle Gellar just can't act. The Japanese version is still pretty mediocre. It was too confusing, although the nice ideas and pretty direction/camera work make it worth watching. Hideo Nakata and Takashi Miike's horror work is much better. Dark Water and Audition are two of the best horror films ever made.

even if sarah michele gellar isnt the best actress, that movie scared the living shit out of me, i saw it in the theater and screamed so much, the whole time we were there, i clung to my boyfriends arm ^^ and anytime anyone makes that awful noise, i get the chills. :eek:

Oh my god! This movie scared me for almost a month! It made me sleep at the living room instead of my bedroom.

the jap version, director wanted the audience to think about the movie, while in the americanised version everything was pretty much spelled out for u
thats what i've heard
Japanese original for sure! Buffy didn't really seem like the person to choose from, especially since her job is to make people fear her not being afraid of some ghost and mentally disturb boy.

I loved the Japanese version but cannot comment on the American one. Has anyone seen Ju-Rei:The Uncanny? It seems as if it is done in the same fashion of Ju-On but it is not directed/written by the same person. I was going to pick it up, I just thought I'd see if anyone had seen it and had an opinion.

Guys you make me want to see this one... I'm quite apprehensive since Sarah Michelle's movies are all unbelievable in the bad sense of the word - I liked her a lot in Buffy ( definitely a great series ) but on theaters she's oh my, well, eh, how to say it without seeming so rude....... More, as Ringu was really cool and funny ( yeah, I said Funny !!!!! ), as The Ring was a big snuff... Well I dunno. Might just check this out.
this damn ghost... Now i'm too scared for going to my attic!! :eek:
