So let this be the start of the AX2006 thread.
first off, WHO here on Hongfire is going?
Did you all recieve your pre-registration badges?
I just got mine in the mail today.
edit:
there really wasn't a need for this to be sticked but cool none the less
Heh. Started one of these threads in Anime Discussion a while back, but nobody seemed to care much.

Registered almost a month ago and still waiting for my badge to show, but they've traditionally been really slow about getting stuff out until the last minute. Day one will pretty much be opening ceremonies, the CLAMP panel, and the fifteenth anniversary party for me. Haven't really planned much out for later, but plan on trying to hook up with HongFireians if possible, at some time. Perhaps I'll see you there.

yes TSR lets make a HongFireian meet up....as far as what to do..i have NO idea..
I do run a workshop called "the ARt of Glowsticking" so maybe you 'll can come to that :) AHHAHAAH
and i did submit to the AMV contest, we'll see if i make it to the finals
anyways, you SHOULD be getting your pre-registered badges soon. They did send it out First Class Mail. so double check your mail box.
is it at akihabara?
hahaha no :) It is in Anaheim, California
Not Japan. Akihabara is nice though (my little dream world), but i think the general American anime fan would know nothing of an anime convention in Japan.

yes CLAMP is going to be awesome..i can see all the CLAMP fan girls going crazy..screaming at the producers telling them to make another anime like X, where the dominate theme is yaoi. Hahahaha
i am VERY interested in the Geneon Panel this year...as they should be telling us when Shakugan no Shana will be available on DVD in the US. and there is something special for all Erementar Gerad fans out there as well. yay!
I will see how many more people respond in this forum.
I'll set a date and time for a Hongfireian meet up. is everyone registered to go for all 4 days? anyways i'll have my digital vid cam, i'll be starting an anime newscast site over this summer with AX 2006 as my kick off....so we'll see

Got my badge like two weeks ago. ^_^

I got my badge a week or so ago (4-day registration). I'm sort of surprised they actually sent out the badges (although it's too bad there's STILL going to be a pre-reg line, with all of the usual problems that entails. An all-online registration would be nifty. I'm just glad there's been some improvement to the process). This will be my fifth AX.
i am VERY interested in the Geneon Panel this year...as they should be telling us when Shakugan no Shana will be available on DVD in the US. and there is something special for all Erementar Gerad fans out there as well. yay! That should be neat. I always meant to watch Shakugan no Shana because I like Ito Noizi's art, and the story seemed interesting, but I sort of got distracted from watching the past couple seasons. And what exactly are they going to announce about Gerad? They already announced they licensed it last year. I went to the panel last year so I could get good seats for the Kotoko concert; I normally don't go to the panels, but the Geneon panel was actually really interesting/useful. Plus, we got Kouta Hirano (the Hellsing mangaka) yelling out "NO NO! WE'RE NOT GAY!", in English, to the audience XD
yes CLAMP is going to be awesome..i can see all the CLAMP fan girls going crazy..What about the CLAMP fanboys? :) I'd really love to see them; I think xxxHOLiC and Tsubasa are both incredible series, in addition to all their classic manga. I just don't know how the panel is going to work. It's too bad that a) getting into the autograph session is so random, and b) AX is providing the signing materials. I'd rather get one of my own manga or shitajiki signed. I think I'll at least try to get into the CLAMP panel. I didn't think I was going to get in to see Kotoko last year and I was pleasantly surprised, so maybe that will continue :P

well i am not much of a CLAMP fan. sadly to say, dont know if i will go, seeing that A LOT OF PEOPLE will be there. :( i do run a workshop and i might be busy
but none the less i will try to make it
AMV contest will be a blast as well. hopefully i made it into the finals this year, but i duno..
There is a Koge Donbo panel. which i am VERY excited to go to. i hope i can bring my own collection to get signed, but i duno how the autograph's are going to work. I love her work none the less.
As far as the Geneon panel, i heard there will be some special appearance for something related to Eremenatar Gerad. So i am not sure. it read it on a news article posted in Anime News network. so thats about it.
i hope they will tell us when Shana is coming to DVD in US, or i will be forced to buy the R2 DVDs, which i am reluctant cuz i am kinda low on cash.
anyways i am arranging a HF meet up, anyone else interested?

the CLAMP panel will be from 2:00Pm to 5:00PM on the first day (saturday) in the MAIN EVENT room, which is the BALLROOM (ballrooms A to E). its massive. On the third floor.
same place where they held the AMV contest and AX Idol last year.
seating starts 1:00pm. so start lining up at like 11:30am or so, right after the Opening Ceremonies.
I am going on Friday, my hotel is booked then so yeah... -_- i have to be there Friday.
and again, who 'wants' to meet up? chat it up and maybe go get some food? time is approaching FAST.
I'm going too...but I don't wanna meet any of ya, lol. You're all a bunch of anime nerds that smell, squeal, snort, and the like!
jk, lol. I'm most likely going on the first day (I only go on one of the days, never more than one). Most likely because of the opening ceremonies and having the first shot at the merchandise at the dealer room, just like some of the collectors here.
Speaking of Gerad, Shana, etc... I hope Geneon says something about Fate/Stay Night. Still no announced DVD release dates or anything, and it's been licensed for a full year. Shana US DVD date was already announced but.... Fate/Stay Night? Gah.
And I'm curious about that "Bring your cameras" thing about Geneon regarding Elemental Gerad. Anybody know when this "special" appearance will be? I'm a fan of Elemental Gerad myself.

Well, now that I actually read the schedule (lol) the Geneon panel will be premiering Ergo Proxy 1, Shakugan no Shana 1-4, a "secret shoujo surprise", and after the panel, "Elemental Gelade" (no, no, not every 'R' in Japanese corresponds to an 'L' in the original language *hits Geneon with a Nerf bat* Gelade sounds like a sports drink ^_^;;; Actually I think the real title is German, Elementar Ger

the first date usually is the best day as well. most items in the merchandise room and all the major events are on the first day.. (eg CLAMP panel and the AMV contest)
Yeah hopefully they will say something about FSN as well.
What you looking for this year Saki?
as far as meeting up..i think i'll just post my cellphone number for anyone who WANTS to meet up...give me a call, and depending on when people are generally not looking at being busy, we can set up a time for us to break off.
i got SSBM in my room if anyone cares...but of course so do 2,000 other people..so yaa...
anyways my number is (909)538-5803 (Ben) not Dan..
Well, what I'm hoping for is just something on Fate/Stay Night. It would be awesome if they actually began to sell the USA DVDs at the Geneon panel in the dealer's room/exhibit hall but that's impossible. Having refrained from watching any of the episodes, visiting threads regarding Fate/Stay Night and galleries/image boards that may have screenshots from the anime, or anything that might leak goods from the series (I'm really extreme when it comes to "first impressions"), I'm getting weary of waiting. Not tempted to download and watch, but just weary of waiting... Then again, I don't know if Geneon knows the magnitude of the fandom Fate/Stay Night has here in America, so who am I kidding hoping for this and all.... :(
Another thing I look forward to is possibly purchasing Shakugan no Shana DVD vol. 1. Speaking of that, yes, the release dates of volume 1 and 2 of Shana were announced. Volume 1 is slated for American release on 9/5/06, with Volume 2 following in 11/7/06, making Shakugan no Shana a bimonthly release, just like the recent Elemental Gerad. Preorder Volume 1 here if you like, by TheRightStufInternational:
http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/WA5clucu5bztnoD67c/browse/item/69862/4/0/0
Thank god they didn't ruin the title or the logo. The logo is a bit different but at least it still has that same aura as the Japanese one, only in English...
Other than that, I just look forward to more anime being licensed.
And spending away at the Exhibit Hall.... that is, if I manage to scrounge up some money by then, heh.

bah and i was hoping they'd keep the original title...oh well.
oh and saki the Geneon panel is on the 2nd day of the expo..so you might have to go to both days if you wanna see CLAMP and Geneon.
I don't know, two days is a bit too much for me.
And for Shana, it's still Shakugan no Shana, as you can see from the DVD cover. I think the volume is just called Torch Bearer.

Amazing you guys can do that.
I tend to lose/stop recording memories when I get really fatigued so what I do most of the time in conventions is trying to "chill" and not explode. I don't wanna leave the con not remembering anything now, do I?
Speaking of memories, yep, KOTOKO concert. Managed to keep that one, haha.

I used to be able to stay up later (like one of the first couple years I went, we turned late-night anime screenings into GTO Hour XD That was a lot of fun), but lately I haven't been able to do it. It's no fun to nod off during screenings.
I do remember how awesome the KOTOKO concert was last year. I also remember the staff *****ing later about how everyone was breaking the rules and using cell phones as glow-stick substitutes :) Hopefully the Yozuca* concert will be good too; I'm gonna try to make it to that.

Also, how much money are you guys bringing to AX?More than I'll ever need, I sincerely hope. I tend to bring a lot of cash for several reasons:
It's easier than credit - running a card can be a little slow, the phone lines the vendors use for credit calls sometimes (every year that I've been, I think) go down, and I get a little nervous when the vendor runs out of sight with my card and returns five minutes later ^_^;;;
The local ATMs usually run out of money towards the end of the Expo, and it's not fun to be caught entirely without cash
I bring enough to prepare for emergencies, like I find a cel I must have :)

Oh dang...
I guess I'm wrong again... :p
Heh. Hitting the highway in the morning. Only a sixteen hour drive, but I plan on taking it easy. Looks like I'll end up skipping the opening ceremonies to stand in line for CLAMP. Kinda hate doing that, but priorities are priorities. Opening ceremonies are usually pretty interesting. Akira Kamiya (Legendary retired seiyuu.) usually brings some of his seiyuu students and puts on a voice acting demo and you get nice intros for all the guests who've arrived and a few other interesting things, besides some windy speeches from the staff.
Best places for meeting and hanging out would probably be the lounges at the Hilton or Marriot. Both have nice bars for older attendees, also. (I'm pretty sure the drinking age in California is twenty-one, but locals can correct me if I'm wrong.) Food in the hotel restaurants is excellent, but pretty pricy for those on a budget. Another great place to eat is DownTown Disney. Just cross the street to the Disney parking lot and catch the tram to the park gates. Dozens of restaurants, midrange and up, plus plenty of fast food vendors. Crowded, but good for late meals.
As far as scheduling any kind of get together. There will be a number of bulletin boards around that notices can be posted on and there are two con newsletters each day that you can try to put a notice in. I pretty much spend the day doing panels and scouring the dealers room, but should be free to socialize in the evenings, barring must see events, and I don't do many of those any more. One small concern about public get togethers is anti-HongFire hecklers. Shouldn't be a problem, and if some do appear, the hotel and convention staff/security are your friends. Excessive rudeness and harassment aren't very popular activities and don't get much tolerance. If you should encounter such individuals, keep your poise and don't let them lower you to their level. Just look for somebody official if ignoring them doesn't work.
And bring cameras. There are massive numbers of cosplayers, some with spectacular costumes, and plenty of other unique sights to capture. Just remember not to take them to places where they aren't allowed, like the art gallery and some panels.
See ya all there.
ja ne
TSR - Wow, where ya from? And Hongfire haters? Is there such thing?
I don't browse the well-populated boards often so I don't know.

Leaving in a few hours myself (somehow, every year, I end up staying up way to late not accomplishing much, then have to hurry up and finish packing in the morning :P) Maybe I'll see you guys there! Hopefully there will be free wireless in the hotel, or wireless nearby that I can *ahem* borrow so I can stay connected.
Heh. I'm from northwest Oregon. The land of vineyards, greenhouses and filbert orchards. Busy finishing my own packing and double checking to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. Though, after money, ID and clothes, everything else is negotiable. Gotta leave plenty of room for swag on the return trip.
And HongFire has a certain reputation with certain holier-than-thou types for being an iniquitous den of internet pirates. I wouldn't really expect any problems, but the world is full of morons with big chips on their shoulders, so it doesn't hurt to be prepared.
Most hotels offer internet, so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting connected. Ask when you check in. I don't have a mobile platform, myself, so I'll be away for a while.
See ya all there.

I already have my badge and holder etc.
So my question is basically:
"How early should I be there to line up for CLAMP?" :p
Edit:
I found this at the AX site:
Sketch Winners
If a GoH raffled off sketches at his/her focus panel, the first part of the autograph session is dedicated to the sketch winners. This can, and usually does take up a significant amount of time (30 minutes or more). This is done to benefit both the artist and the attendees, as artists have an easier time getting into the groove when drawing continuously. Sketch winners should show up as early as possible to maintain the flow. Attendees who want to wait in line for autographs earlier may do so, since there will be a separate line for those who have won sketches.
You are responsible for providing your own material to receive your sketch. No materials will be provided at the autograph session.
Do you all think CLAMP will stick around for the free for all autographs session? I'd at least like to get something signed since I most likely will not be getting a sketch ;_;

i hear there are a lot of people from Japan here over here as well JUST to see CLAMP..so yeah...7AM? is my guess, i'll be there at 7:30AM ,waiting...
As for the thing you quoted. It varies by GoH. Some Goh wont do sketches at all and wont do autographs either. So its really up to them.
now i am not 100% sure about CLAMP, but this is what i hear from the AX IRC channel and the mods there..
CLAMP WILL NOT stick around for the free autograph session. THat is what i hear. They have a raffle..if you dont get drawn. thats pretty much it.. :( you dont get an autograph
since there are going to be so many people the chances of getting an autograph without being a lucky drawer...iss close to none

alright guys....AX is almost over..i am going back for the last day...
lets chat it up...
i will have a detailed blog of my time at AX this year posted up.. as well as other news..
in short, i will some up some big things..
I was able to meet the creators of CLAMP and get each of their signatures. One of the lucky 220 of 7000+ that got it.
I was also able to meet Koge-Donbo, the artist for Di Gi Charat (Dejiko) and get her autograph as well.
and for those of you that missed it or have heard recently or read somewhere. FSN is finally being released Nov 14.
Pani Poni Dash was licensed by ADV. No release date yet, but soon. And trust me, i saw the first episode subbed. "They did a good job" The DVD comes with TWO sub streams. One with full text for all those words and one without.
Shakugan no Shana already licensed by Geneon, they did it right and they did not change the OP title art of the anime.
Although the text they use to give credits to the creators is kinda hard to read.
There is a lot more, but i will post much later. Gots to return to the con.
