For those who don't know who he is:

What I want to avoid:

What will I need to do this right, so it doesn't look as horrible as that?

I was thinking:
1. Real bandages (make them not so perfectly white somehow)
2. Fake burns
3. Make up
4. Pipe

What else? I really don't wanna to look like an idiot, I want to do justice to the character. thank you in advance ^_^

Yes. You should use real bandages, fake hair, mask, makeup, chest plate or bra with stuffing, boots, gloves, and pipe.

I don't think you'll need fake burns. Much of the body is already covered. You should be able to use makeup to simulate burnt skin.

As for the fake hair. It'll be easier to have fake hair poking through the bandages than your real hair. This was you don't have to bother with positioning you hair every time you put on the custom. The hair will already be in place. Perhaps you can modify something like a Darth Vader mask.

If your upper body is not as well built as the image, then you may want to wear a chest plate, or you could wear a bra with stuffing.

Also the anime charater is not wearing shoes or boots. So you may want to wrap bandages on a pair of tight form fitting boots that are high enough to have the top of the boot covered by the blue robe.

Finally a nice pair of form fitting black gloves.

I'm no where near his build so I can find something for padding under tha bandages.

Where can I obtain most of these items? (particularly the robe, boots and gloves) I'd like to get these items in soft, typical everyday materials, not the shiny materials you usually in cosplay.

Also, he wears purple boots and gloves usually.

You can get all the clothing material you need from a fabric supply store. Probably one of these stores have what you need:

You can get a pattern for a robe and make your own.

The gloves and boot, you can get from most men or ladies clothing stores. You can always dye the boots purple, or make a boot cover for the boots using purple fabric.

What fabrics would you recommend for the sash and kimono?

To resist wrinkles, I would go with a light or medium weight polyesther or cotton-polyester for sash and kimono.

If you want a textured fabric, you might want to use coudrouy.

For the purple boot cover, I would use spandex.

If you are very good at sewing and have a lot of patience, you can sew your own black spandex gloves. Otherwise, I would stick with buying the gloves.

Usually one of the store employees should be able to help you narrow down your choices of fabric quickly. And if you don't want them to know that you are cosplaying, then just tell them that you making a custom for theater.

For the gloves and boots, I was thinking purple leather. And for the cotton polyester, is that what kimonos are usually made of?

Silk just doesn't seem like something shishio would wear..are yukatas a different material?

For the gloves and boots, I was thinking purple leather. And for the cotton polyester, is that what kimonos are usually made of?Kimonos are made of silk. Silk is delicate and expensive. The facbric store may have a cotton-silk or cotton-polyesther blend that has a similar look to silk.

Silk just doesn't seem like something shishio would wear..are yukatas a different material?Yukatas are made of 100% cotton. 100% cotton wrinkles easily. I suggest using a cotton-polyester blend.
