We will be testing a popup just for the gallery for 2-3 days requested by the sponsor.

Here I would like your honest opinions about what are your views on pop ups. And vote the poll. Try to imagine your self as a first time visitor and just found hongfire.com and found the gallery. What will you think when you see a pop up in the gallery? Will you continoue to use hongfire.com's gallery or just leave? I know some long time members might accept pop ups inorder to support and keep hongfire.com runing but I want you to imagine as if you were new to hongfire.com and found a pop up in the gallery.

I personally dislike popups alot which I would never want to see it on hongfire.com.

But currently we runing on 2 dual xeon servers and we needed to add a extra dual xeon server as soon as possible for the tracker. The new torrent script has already completed and able to install on hongfire.com anytime. but we don't have enough funds to add and maintain an extra server for the tracker.

Please tell your friends about hongfire.com and invite them to join the community or use our gallery so we can incrase our traffic to be able to get a 3rd server for the tracker script.

The gallery pop will be only for a test for 2-3 days depends on the result and how people like it or not.

If you see pop ups in main page or forum please report them to site support forums. I want to make sure that we don't get popup ads in main page and forum.

Please let me know your opinions. Thank you.

Most people will have enough knowledge to block popups if they get annoying, so if I were to be just finding the site my reason for staying or leaving would be the quality of content.

I wont really mind but that's an opinion having been a long time member already... Frankly speaking if it's my first visit here and i'm spammed by
pop-ups i would run away...

I don't know. I mean I personally don't have good impression on sites that have popups. That's why I always told teh sponsor to please make sure the ads doesn't have popups and contact the sponsor right away if popup were found and ask them to remove it.

Yeah then you should vote the first option. This poll is asking if you first vitsit a site and see popups.

So from what you understand, you ask us to which point we mind popup?
Personally, to me, popup are a nuisance, so I voted the first option though I'd probably just use an anti pop up if I had to really keep visiting this site for a reason or another.

Personally, I hate popups. I already have too many windows opened in my taskbar (that's why I'm using tabs in my internet browser) and I don't like when something is thrown into my face in the same way an OS error message is.

But if it's really necessary (and unobtrusive), I suppose I can deal with it...

If a popup only shows for one time when I go in, then I wouldn't mind. But if the popup shows every time a picture loads, then that's troublesome. I wouldn't really mind. If I'm a firt time member and this site has a known reputation for good pictures, I would probably find a way to prevent these popups from happening, since quality is more important here.

most current browsers block popups by defoult. even IE will do it. So having popups may be pointless. For me Popups are not issue, I did not saw popup for more than 6 months thanks to opera/firefox (I don't touch IE)

I don't think popup will effect me much since i'm using a good browser with script blocker. Even if it does I can't just stop being member of hongfire :p Like HereAtThere said, quality is impotant.
First impression might be dragged down alots with popups.

If that would be my first visit and I see a pop-up popping into my face;of course I'm using a browser which allows pop-ups;it would be annoying,it would also depends on the look of browsed site,so called first impression would be lowered, and I would rather stopped visiting if that pop-up would popping out after each reload.
So I choose option 2.

I think if its a site that i know that i want something from i will still use it even if it has popups.

I need to get cracks, ALL Crack sites have MAJOR popups and virus attacks and stuff like that, but i use it none the less, that will not stop me from making my Macromedia Flash 8 free :) har har...of course i am very prepared for these types of things so yeah

the Hongfire gallery has an INSane amount of good quality and useful images, that i use almost everyday. even if i had to clikc through 2 popups everytime i loaded a new page i would still visit it.

just like asuki that have that nasty pulldown banner that gets in the way but i just close it and still use it ;)

I agree with HaT, I wouldn't really mind too much if the pop-up only loads once. It's the sites that have pop-ups that load after each picture that really get annoying. It also depends on the content of the site. The HF gallery is one of the best resources for pictures on the Net, so I'd be willing to put up with a little more trouble before I simply abandoned it. Even if it was my first visit, I think the sheer volume of pictures would convince me to come back. Realistically, though, I'd try to find a way to block the ad if possible. It shouldn't be too hard with all the ad-blocking features in most browsers these days (as previously mentioned).

Anyway, I voted for the third option. ^_^

as long as it doesn't get too annoying to the members of the site.

i don't mind the ad banners as long as it remains unobtrusive (doesn't annoy you at best). A popup here and there would be beneficial, especially for a site such as this since there is no way for members to donate, and HongFire need revenues to survive.

The frequency of popups popping up shouldn't be too often that members would find it annoying.

so yea. option 2. I don't visit a site in the first place if i have no interest with it. After i usually find what i was looking for, i leave that site.

But for me to stay is another matter. The content in HF is diverse enough for me to stick around that i wouldn't mind pop-ups for that matter.

Pop-ups don't bother me one bit, because Opera gives you the nice option to turn then into "Pop-Downs", i.e. having them open in inactive background tabs where they don't steal your attention :kakashi:

Really depends on the site and the popups. I don't like popups, but I understand the realities, so I can tolerate them in small numbers if there is anything in the site at all I find interesting, and if there isn't, it's a moot point. As the popups become more numerous and persistent, my willingness to surf a site hosting them diminishes, but it has to get pretty bad to stop me from getting something I really want. None of the options are quite right, but three is closest to my behavior. And I think that few people with up to date software see many of them any more. I don't really see it as a big problem if it's necessary to fund the site.

All advertising is an insult to your intellegence. Only forgivable if it makes you laugh as compensation, in my opinion. But it works, so think about the implications.

Assuming for a second I don't use pop-up blockers ... I would leave. Especially if they are, like HAT wrote, popping up on every picture.

I don't see any popup windows in the gallery, so I can only comment on past experiences from other sites.

Depends on what type of popup. The popups that opens a new popup window for each new instance of web browser is annoying. It floods your taskbar so fast with so many windows. Those 1 window popup (for the entire site's ads) is fine for the most part. Long as it doesn't impede the enjoyment of nagivating the site, its cool.

The only popups I don't like is that annoying target clown popup ad and that clicking camera ad. >_<

We shouldn't have any popup or popins in www.hongfire.com or www.hongfire.com/forum so if you see any plesae report them in the bug report forum with a screenshot that way I can see which banner does it and request the sponsor to remove that banner.

I disabled all popups now. So our site should not have any pop ups at all in all pages. if you notice any pop ups at hongfire.com please report to the bug report forum thank you.
