Thing is you see... this friend lives in Japan...
So to make long story short... the 360 is now in my hands and my friend is $200USD (sans shipping costs) richer. :p
That's a mighty fine deal if I do say so myself. :D
Worked out pretty well for both parties. Friend didn't want it, and I can check out a next gen system for $200 and probably still be able to sell it down the road for a profit. :D
Might have to be a bit assertive to make someone accept the remote though...

Ordered DOA4 off YesAsia, but it hasn't come yet, so there's not much to show. It froze on me the first time I messed with my preferences, but nothing a restart couldn't fix. Enjoyed an hour or so of Hexic HD before turning it off via the Dashboard (sounded gimmicky when I first heard of it, but I really do appreciate it now). :p
More later when I find the time. Questions welcome. :p

Say..... is it possible for you to cram a kitten inside the XBOX360's casing & take a picture of it? :p BTW, how did you friend won it in the first place?

Don't know, didn't ask for specifics. :p
It was some contest or drawing thing or whatnot at one of those event thingys, which is rather odd because I thought my friend lived in a fairly rural area... or well... not exactly backwoods kinda thing, but nowhere near a big city where such an event shoulda been held. Or maybe I just misinterpreted it. :p
As for space... I don't think even a kitten could fit in there, looks pretty cramped from what I could see through the vents. That and I don't have a kitten for testing anyway. :p
The machine got plenty warm though, not scalding or anything, but pretty warm. Nowhere near as hot as my old VCR though, that thing's a scorcher.

I'll probably get the Play & Charge kit once I get tired of DOA4. Should be interesting to see if it would work on my PC/GuiltyGear.
Interestingly enough, even though the Japanese 360 is only supposed to support 30 Xbox titles out of the box, I only found 11GBs free space on the harddrive the first time I booted up. Though, there were a bunch of welcoming/promotional videos on the harddrive, so I'm not sure if people are counting the space available when everything is deleted or whatever.
Also bought a cheap $10 HD/AV cable and hooked it up to my CRT and router. Sucks that I'm unable to change the refresh rate though, the damn thing is stuck at 60hz. Running at 1280x720 is pretty nice, though 1280x1024 is even better. It's also pretty nice being able to download demos on a console, lol. :D
This Geometry Wars arcade game is especially addicting. :p
And ehh... Halo2 wasn't bad. The "US version" seems to work fine on the system as was mentioned on LikSang. :p
Changing the system language to Japanese results in in-game Japanese menus/text, and I would imagine the same for other languages.

That's lucky. How come your friend didn't wanted it? and do you know Japanese or something to get it from your friend in Japan? The price is more then double overhere..

Actually, you can probably get more for the remote than if it was a regular one. People are constantly trying to get japanese systems so they can play japanese games before they come out in america (if they come out in america at all)

I knew enough Japanese for a normal conversation, but I've not used it in so long I've forgotten most of it, in any case my friend is fluent in English as well as Japanese (born in and lived in Japan for 16 years), so communication is not a problem.
Actually, you can probably get more for the remote than if it was a regular one. People are constantly trying to get japanese systems so they can play japanese games before they come out in america (if they come out in america at all)Ehh... that (usually) only applies for Playstation and Nintendo I think. :p
The vast majority of Xbox game developers are US or non-Asia based, many of whom never bother releasing to the Japanese market due to lack of an installed console base or lack of interest, maybe both. So it's Japan that's lacking in good Xbox games. Just look at the backwards compatibility list for US/EU compared to JP. They don't even get support for Pandora Tomorrow or Chaos Theory.
So if anything, it would be Japanese people who would be importing US Xboxs to play US games, they sure as hell aren't buying their domestic Xboxs, much the same reason I never got a domestic PS (well, technically it is, but it plays all region games with its mod-chip).
Anyways, I was digging through the pamphlets and managed to find this bit of info in the warranty section:
Operating Temperature: 5 °C to 35 °C (41 °F to 95 °F)
Hmm... I expected higher tolerances, but I suppose this was so that the average console user doesn't think 60*C is fine for the console as it would be for a computer.
What's interesting is that my 250GB hard drive which usually runs at about 40*C feels slightly cooler than my 360 when it's been running for several hours, so that's why I'm skeptical of the official operating temps.
Oh yeah, and DOA4 came in:

Looks like they got the same cruddy packaging that we got in the US/EU.
I did manage to snag one of those pre-order inserts from GameStop though. Looks sooooo much better. Pictures available if anyone really wants no see it.
mmm ayane....
I mean... I heard the windows for countering got decreased... did you notice the difference?

mmm ayane....
I mean... I heard the windows for countering got decreased... did you notice the difference? You mean from the US version and Japanese version? I've never played the US version.
If you mean from previous games, I've never played any of those either. Hell, this is the first 3D fighting game I've ever owned, lol. :p
You're probably better off asking in the DOA4 thread. :p
But in general, the countering system seems rather... useless. There's way too many variables unless you're playing against a complete newbie that just continually mashes the punch or kick buttons. And against an experienced player who throws all different kinds of punches and kicks at you, it's just suicide.
What's really annoying though is that the computer cheats with countering. On the Very Hard difficulty level they'll just counter every one of your combos half-way through even when you've been throwing curveballs like ending with a low/high kick instead of mid, or throwing instead of punching, or sweeping when you would normally dash punch, etc.

the countering window, as far as I'm concerned, and according to DOAcentral.com, is the same as other DOAs. I don't have an Xbox 360, but I've played enough in outlets to know quite a lot about it.
There is a new gravity working now. Characters can 'bounce' on the floor on certain moves and be comboed thereafter. Launchers, in general, will launch the character lower than the old DOAs. Not sure if this affects every character, but I know you can't play old-school Ayane anymore (b+throw, b+P, PPf+PK or anything along that line).
There are, of course, new obstacles. The obstacles can be very interesting during gameplay at times :D
AI on very hard is pretty simple...it's good actually. It trains the person to play against real people...not noobs. Like if you mash Christie's PPPPP string, chances are you are going to get countered. Good players usually poke high, low, mid...hell everywhere, just to bypass the guard. And there is no other way of countering a person who throws all different kinds of punches and kicks at you other than counter and slow escaping.
Hayate's PPd+KP got removed, but he gets teleport...
Hayabusa gets teleport too. Or rather the 'teleport' stance.
Christie got a new stance. Seemed like a nerf at first glance since all her great moves are transfered there, but after playing awhile, that stance is really annoying :)
Bass is more to DOAU Bass than DOA3 (damn I loved the DOA3 one...one crit combo = 75% health gone on longest health bar :P)
Ein's movesets are more or less the same.
And the rest...well, I'm too lazy to mention :p
Hope you have fun with DOA4 Kerii, I'm sure you'll have fun :)
