That's a rather rude remark. I've seen crappy japanese cosplay if that's what you mean by "pro's." And I've seen /amazing/ american cosplay. Cosplay is meant to be fun. Some people do it as fun type of "roleplay" and others just like to make the costumes. I think everyone should be allowed to cosplay. It's supposed to be fun, that's all.

In other news, the look on that guys face the whole time was funny. Lol. He probably doesn't have a clue about the anime fandom community. xD

No it's true. I've seen some very good cosplay pictures as well. Sadly most of them aren't North American. I probably go to a convention in Japan or something, but maybe not the US.

People really should at least try to cosplay characters that resemble them to avoid humiliating themselves...

Agreed, to say the least; it's definitely harder for American cosplayers. A Japanese head and body frame are ideal when considering most characters. The majority of Japanese hair is a godsend as well. Thin, dark, and easily sculpted :3. I think Americans are much better at Parody Cosplay than anything else ^^;...

While most small conventions are pretty lame in general, the large ones tend to kick ass >:3, and you run into a lot of serious and devoted cosplayers (but the one's who like to roleplay to an extreme while eating burger king kinda creep me out X.X)

I've high hopes for AnimeExpo this year though >:3.

Good ole' Kwoon was probably seeking out the worst people he could find for his video for one thing. There are good American cosplayers out there, thank god. Knew one girl who basically learned how to sew, embroider and even work leather for the sole purpose of dressing up as either anime characters or renaissance costumes. As for japanese, they do usually have better costumes. It's more prevelant there after all and more easily attained. Although I must say that you will find them playing characters they really shouldn't. Ever see a japanese Berserk that looks like a bean pole? Or a japanese woman playing a certain Dokkoida character .. but shaped like a 'burdock' root I believe the saying went.

As always, you can just hope that people of any race choose a character not too distant from their actual selves LOL. The results are always hilarious. Me, I will laugh from the side lines. I have the greatest respect for people who are brave enough to go to these conventions in costume. Sad to say, I am just too old for it. I don't like being the creepy old dude LOL.

Great post Blood_Raven, very funny. The attached pic shows a good example of a Japanese cosply, followed by funny one; then the best cosplay of all time imho-Japanese or American. If you don't know who's posing as Mario, you're not old enough ;D

lol, burly moon. yeah, most american cosplayers need to work harder on the costumes, cuz even if the characters are suited to asian people, a well made costume can make anyone look good. And i know this is rude but if your like really over weight, don't play skinny hot body girls, that goes for girls AND dudes, especially the man fayes out there. one last thing--props to all the people and their massive balls of steel for going out in public in cosplay while dealing with idiots like me.
