Yes, folks, this has been confirmed. When MonolithSoft confirmed Xenosaga III with some nice screenshots, they also confirmed Xenosaga I + II for DS.

The game will be 2D and will play more on Xenosaga I's style of battle.
The whole idea of this DS game will be to build some additional hype for Xenosaga III. I would also imagine that the DS version will have some cool new stuff in it that we can't get in the PS2 versions of Xenosaga I and II.

From the thumbnail, I never would've guessed the upper char art was Shion's... It's so radically different, I thought it was for a new char ^_^"

They have a new artist for Xenosaga III, and I believe the same artist is doing the new art for the DS Xenosaga.

Bah, I was hoping the 'Xenosaga DS' title was going to be the original Xenogears. I hope they port it to at least one of the portables. X/;

Yeah, Xenogears was definitely the best of the bunch :) Maybe one of these days they'll put it out again, but I wouldn't count on it. Funny, PSP is such a better system but all the games I want to play are on the DS, hmm...

not played Xenosaga at all (with the game not released in Europe)
so this should be the first Xenosaga game i will play :)

They can't. At least, MonolithSoft and Namco can't. SquareEnix owns Xenogears (It was originally made by the staff of MonolithSoft when they all worked for Squaresoft (At the time). When Squaresoft didn't give them the budget to make Xenogears 2, they left and created MonolithSoft under Namco).
Only SE can port Xenogears, so don't expect to ever see Xenogears.

I just hope that they will release separately a dvd disc of the cut scene videos. I'd buy that.

And I'm looking forward to this. I mean, I have both for PS2, but I think the DS ones might be a little more interesting. I haven't played the second yet, but I thought the battles in the first were boring.
are these games made from the creator of xenogears? i heard the kicked him frmo monolithsoft as well

sweet...i saw screens of xenosaga I & II and they look good so far.
