As I was watching Sigmund Freud and his ideals in psychology... He managed to cure some of his mental disturbances through introspection...

I'm attempting the same thing, breaking through my conscious and unconscious.

If I stop coming, its because I've gone insane.

Hmm, listening to dead people is probably something a lot of people have high on their lists of disturbing things. Or are you visiting other temporal eras in your dreams or using some other means to hear the good doctor?

Couldn't resist. Anyway, I personally find introspection to be extremely helpful in helping me maintain a rational perspective toward myself and the world I live in. Any time I find myself reacting in an unexpected manner, either positive or negative, I sit down and ask myself why. What makes me behave this way? Thins out the personal hypocracy that people bury themselves in. All that denial tends to generate a lot of tension from all the effort it takes to not look out the window/into the mirror and see what's really going on around/within you. It's not easy and requires some brutal honesty with yourself. Tends to leave you feeling both a lot better and a lot worse about yourself. You feel crappy about all the petty, nasty, selfish things you do, but you tend to stop doing them and become a better person because of it. Takes a lot of willpower, an open mind , lots of honesty, and the courage to face the ugly truths you'll uncover, but if you don't face them, you'll never fix them.

Good luck.

Well, to be fair, Freud was high a lot, so... if you don't have any success, there are always plenty of mind-altering substances out there... not that I would ever advocate such a thing... :p

LIES!
You want me to become a cokehead just like him =(
YOU HAVE NO FAITH IN THE FURRY PANDA
WAHHHHHHHHH

Anywho I had an odd dream last night
I was doing something dunno why, driving a white 04 solara. Suddenly it breaks down and someone in the car is like GET IN THIS ONE ASS. So I jump in a white mustang... Funny part is I have this belief that American Cars can't handle (Which is kinda true). Keep in mind I've never driven a Mustang before. The steering wheel was so hard to turn it was as if it locked up, and I'm like OMFG THIS HAS CRAPPY HANDLING! then I woke up

You know the model AND year of the car in your dream??? :O
Actually, I had a dream like that once, the steering wheel and brakes just stopped working all of a sudden and I rolled into the car in front of me. The car I was driving was Japanese tho... but I doubt that had anything to do with it. ^^

2000-2003 around then.
Yep, I'm thinking the dream is telling me that I can't go left and right, i'm forced to move straight because of my parents. I can't really make a choice on my own and because of that, I can't turn left nor right. Just moving straight and taking the latter.

Hm, that's an interesting interpretation... I would probably say the same thing, or something similar. Just for fun (because we've both had a dream about cars), I looked up the meaning on a dream website. Here's what it said:

Are you dreaming about an out of control car, a car crash, a car wreck or other similar topic? Here is what it means.

Cars are vehicles that you normally should have control over. They're not like a plane or train, where someone with years of training and education is in control of. Cars are normal vehicles that you should be able to drive yourself, that you use every day to get your normal life tasks done.

For that reason, a car very much represents your life in a dream. It represents your normal day to day activities, the way that your life is progressing.

If you dream that YOU are driving that car and are losing control or have an accident, it means that you don't like the way your life is turning out. You wish that you were making wiser choices, that you were better able to deal with the normal traumas life is throwing at you. You need to find the strength to grab that wheel and handle the turns and slippery situations.

If in your dream someone ELSE is driving and you are a passenger in the situation, it means that you feel your life has gotten out of control. You feel someone else is forcing you to make decisions you don't want to make, that you don't feel in control of something you SHOULD be in control of. You need to realize that your life IS your life and that if you allow someone else to steer your path, that is a decision you are making. Only you can best decide what is best for yourself. If you're unhappy with your path, make yourself a new path! Never let someone else railroad you into a decision you disagree with. Find a way to take control of your own life.
A pretty reasonable explanation, anyway. ^^

Funny. Whenever I dream about cars, I'm in the road dodging them and trying to get to the curb, but no matter how many lanes I cross, (In slow motion with them aiming for me.) the goal just doesn't get any closer. Of course, I already have lots of conclusions about what they might mean, but I find it interesting that other people generally seem to be in them rather than out of them.

I dreamt I was on a trek up a mountain the day before yesterday. The thing is that it was a very long and tough walk, and when I was at the top, I realized I had forgotten my shoes and had to walk all the way back to get them and do it all over again. It kept going like that all night, and then I woke up. I don't know if it ws a nightmare or not.

Hijiko
09-12-2005, 03:26 PM
hmm.. nightmares... i had quite a few of them when i was a child n it was either fighting a monster with a sword (or a wooden club) in my house or running away from one cuz it was godzilla-size. I remember these well as they were reoccuring ones >__<

Anyone ever had a dream where they were trying to run away from something, but run in slow motion n can't accelerate no matter how hard u try?

I can't remember what I was running from, or even if I was running from anything at all, but I've had a few dreams where I tried to run but my legs wouldn't work very well. I couldn't go faster than a slow walk for some reason...
Isn't it funny how whenever you need to do something in a dream, it seems like the dream sets you up to fail? i.e. you need to run but can't, you try to drive but can't, etc.
Hm, I wonder why that is?
And how did this turn into another dream thread :p

Oh, so you made it back to Hongfire, congrats on not making your head explode ^_^

As for those dreams, yeah, I've had plenty of them, only I don't wake up when I'm about to hit concrete/the ground, no, I stay in my dream well after I hit rock bottom, and then I slowly drift back into reality...

I tend not to dream about cars (I haven't bothered to get a license yet), but I do dream a lot about stairs and elevators and stuff. Usually they are versions of the "run away from unknown bad guys" theme, where I am in a tall building and have to use elevators to evade them (you know the usual stuff like stopping one floor above them then taking another elevator back up and going down stairs and stuff). Strange to say I have never had the "stereotypical" flying dreams.

Me too, haha ^^
One time I had a dream where I fell into a really big pit and landed on a huge stalagmite. Even though it totally impaled me, I didn't wake up. I just lay there, wondering why the mine workers (I think it was in a mine...) didn't help me. They just ignored me and kept working, and eventually I woke up.

And speaking of losing your sanity, ever get a really annoying song stuck in your head that just won't go away? That's enough to drive you crazy. My secret cure: pass it on to someone else :D

Yes i get this a lot, n it gets really annoying when it got stuck in my head while i'm writing 2 of my exams T_T. Lucky i manage to finish them n get a good mark >__>. Even now there's a song stuck in my head (argh lemme concentrate on my calculus T___T)

As for the falling dream, nope never had one in my life (even though i'd like to have one just for the experience :P)

Edit: there's no cure for mine, it just eventually goes away

Introspection can be useful :)
For myself, I found I had lost my focus for the past 3-4 years or so, and spending some time thinking helped me get back on track (slowly anyways).

It also helps that my university has a place called the "Student Development Center" which has trained psychologists, people to help you choose a career for your future based on what you like and what skills you have, etc. :)

As for dreams, I rarely remember my dreams >.<

Lol you do the murdering, maybe you tie into my dreams

I'm always running with a friend or some stranger thats female (never ever seen a stranger that was male) with a murderer chasing us. In the end I always die
I have a vivid dream from when I was younger that I was tied to a cross and sliced into thin pieces... Down my ENTIRE body. Not portion by portion, it was like I was gonna get diced into panda chunks

Dreaming? That's it? Come on! Make the fan run backwards! See the faeries dancing in front of your eyes in the bathroom! When you can control your own mind, then maybe you might see the truth.

Is "Evangelion/Sig Freud as to Eureka 7/ Carl Yung"? Feels like it, right? Or am I dead wrong.

Sorry I dont know, since I dont know what Eureka 7 is like.

Its an anime right ?

To clarify :
KV is asking if Neon Genesis Evangelion is to Sigmund Freud and his theories ; as Eureka 7 is to Carl Yung and his theories.
