Yeah, so I got my first pair of glasses today, and man, did I realize how awful my vision was as I put them on. Thankfully, not bad enough that I have to wear it at all times, but I realized another thing: All my friends who love spending time on computers also wear glasses. This has been bothering my mind, are computer lovers destined to wear glasses or something?

How many people on Hongfire wear glasses? I'm pretty sure many people here spend a lot of time on their computers as well since watching anime indeed does take time.

i wear glasses. although i try to avoid wearing them as much as i can. as they r really old and have a tendancy to slip off. i really need a new pair i've been wearing mine since 96.

soooo.....just got ur first pair huh. well spill, how do u feel about them....likes, dislikes, do u think u look better with em?

i wouldn't worry about this to much.....as i think we're pretty much destined to run big name corporations and have all the jock's workin under us.....bitter sweet revenge.

Glasses? Cool. I just hope you don't have a pair of those "stupid trendy box-framed "EMO" glasses", as stated by Maddox (scroll down to #4: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=cam_whore ) <-- WARNING! It contains language not suitable for younger audiences.

Well I look better without the glasses in my opinion, but I don't think it makes me look worse. I envy people who look even better with glasses.

On the side note, I love the glasses, they are one of those with smaller lenses, and they still give me VERY clear vision (I'm ashamed I didn't know that lenses cost more than the fram itself...). I don't know what about them that makes people complain.

I have a lot of friends who wear glasses who don't complain about them. The only thing though is that glasses are inconvenient especially when you're doing manual labor. That'd probably be the only time that a person would complain about glasses. The other time is when you're well around your 30's and you've never had to wear glasses before, but when you do start, a psychological hickup clicks in your brain and you start to worry that it may be a sign of old age. Maybe it is. Maybe not. Personally, I'd rather wear glasses than walk around blindly like an idiot.

Been wearing glasses since 10th grade.
And at first I wasnt too keen on them either (eventhough they were armani and a nice frame). But you get used to them.
Often I even forget I have them on ... even once was looking for them and then my mom told me I still had them on ....loooooool

Anyway ..people say I look a bit older..more serious/mature with them lol ...

I dont think monitors damage your eyes..but they do tire them out a lot ... My latest pair is de-mirrored, meaning it takes care of a lot of the glare from a screen ... helps me a lot when I'm pounding away at the keyboard all night.

Oh..there even was a glasses thread here somewhere ..... but that was a while ago...

Here is my current pair :

Where did you get those, if you don't mind me asking? I've been wanting a pair for a while now but yeah, I have 20/20 vision so I don't exactly need them. ^^;

As for people complaining about glasses, my bf complains about them alot of times. Because they get smudgy alot which I hear is annoying.. Plus one night we were cuddling and somehow his glasses like.. stabbed me in the eye. ^^; He also seems to have to push them up alot which would probably be annoying..

Oh and one more really annoying thing. They get crooked if you accidently sit on them and stuff. My BF's glasses are pretty crooked right now, I accidently sat on them the other day.. <_<;

I wore glasses for almost 20 years, but 10 years ago I got Lasik, best 2 grand I ever spent. You can get lasik here in the states for 200 per eye now. I still have 20/20 I think and no ill side effects. If you hate glasses and your eyesight is stable, you may be able to get lasik or another procedure and never worry about glasses again :).

Welcome to the club! :P :D I was wearing them since 98, but just like in your case the vision is not that bad so i don't need it all the time.

Almost all my friends at art institute have glasses @_@ :D, but it doesn't mean people wear them all the time, just for work with computers or in life-drawing classes.

I believe there's a good pair of glasses for every person, if you don't look very well with some frames, others might fit you really nice.

Personaly i look good with or without glasses XD lol

been wearing glasses for the last 8 years, I don't mind them, at first they looked weird on me, but now with my third pair, they actually look good. I pretty much can't see without my glasses, well text wise, but if its like shapes and such I am fine.

I started wearing glasses when i was 4 years old (13 years back) . Seriously, i aren't lying.
The reason?
From what my mom told me, I was a premature baby and the doctors had to give me pure oxygen which affected my vision.

My degrees now: Left - 450, Right 550 (A great 100 different :O)

been wearing glasses for 2-3 years. need them mainly for driving and text. but i wear it most of the time jus for the hell of it.
got these oakleys about a year ago, http://oakley.com/o/o1200d
since then ive sat on,smashed, dropped, etc them (=_=)
i might have to get another eye exam cuz with these on, its really hard to focus my eyes on the computer screen, the text seems smaller. its pretty wierd.

Been wearing glasses for years...a few things....

- scratched lenses suck....big time
- falling asleep because you're drunk with glasses on sucks...big time
- mosh pits........yeah
- being slapped by a woman for being an ass and having your glasses fly into a bush......"WTF, WOMAN!!!"...SLAP x2!
- glasses and concrete....fun
- crooked noses = crooked glasses
- having to get a new prescription because you're eyes got worse = wobbly walking (wow...world looks like I'm looking through a fish bowl...well, not really, but I feel like a fish)
- A Bugs Life 3-d at Disney world (land? I forget)...not the same....3-d glasses over regular glasses looks stupid

Overall, can't see myself without my glasses anymore (think I look strange without them when I see myself in the mirror). Would be nice to ditch them, but don't like the idea of sticking my finger in my eyes every day and Lasik kind of scares me (think Ned Flanders...."Who knew that 10 years after you get laser surgery, your eyes fall out?!")

Hmm maybe there's something in what you say Orisa. I got my glasses when I was 8 years old. The first thing was I did was throwing them around then lately I smashed them with my bike running over it (Yes I did get scolded for that >_>). Anyway I started to get teased at the begining but then some nice girls would actually come and say that I looked smart in them, probably what made me keep the next ones :P.

Years have passed, I have become an obsessive computer geek, althou not one of those that dress like idiots and wear the tick glasses.

I still know how to dress and I use contacts. Often after talking with girls and they come over to my place they still find it totally shocking that I'd be that guy that had this room. http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/725/dsc000599of.th.jpg (http://img368.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc000599of.jpg)

Althou I have them often when I work since it make's my work a lot more easier.

So there are still options as contact - lense and maybe even operating wich I might try when I hit 20.

so... many... LCDs... together... @_@ (nice desk btw XD)

I just think that's just a big stereotype that comp geeks wear glasses (i for one, even though i'm somewat a comp geek >_>). I find that when ppl wear glasses over a period of time, and then suddenly they don't n e more, they look like a completely different person.

Hmm the glasses war pure immaturity when I was small :P but then the screens I worked my arse of :P

Thoe I have a really bad eye sight' i'd almost be blind without my eyecontacts. well I could see and stuff but not read stuff before they'r very close to me. It's a very bad eye-sight I have. Probably when I hit 20 in about a year more I will operate my eye's. Couse then it is when you have grown to an good age I have heard then one can have his eye's operated.

I used to have glasses (i think i got em at 6th grade) man i hated those things: they made me look like an idiot and they werent that practical either for someone like me who moves alot. Anyway then i heard about laser surgery :) now my eyesight is better than average. I cant describe the feeling when, after years of wearing thick glasses, your eyesight is slowly getting better and better (after PRK-surgery); first theres just small, sharp spots in your field of vision but every day those spots just keep enlargening untill (in about 1,5-2 weeks) you see everything crystal clear.

Im not encouraging anyone to take that surgery because its your eyes we`re talking about and theres always risks, just saying im more than happy i took it.

I've been wearing glasses for about 12 years now. I started off with thick frames that made me look very geeky but about 7 years ago, I switched to wireframes so I now look somewhat sophisticated rather than dorky. :p My current frame is a half-rimless similar to that Armani posted earlier. My main complaint with wearing glasses is cleaning them especially the nose piece which can be difficult to throughly clean. :( One thing I do like about them is they count as a fashion accessory since some people (like me :o ) are attracted to others who wear glasses.

Heres a story, while i was in third grade, i thought that glasses were very cool ^^ so, during my third grade vision exam, i messed it up a bit on purpose ^^ *worst mistake of my life* Now, my vision's 300, 350 LOL IM SO FRIGGEN STUPID!! jus a few weeks back i got contacts, and im in junior year now lol...i always smack my head at night when i remember this awful mistake.

I have glasses.
Started wearing them when I was in grade 5 or so.

I tend to use contacts when I play sports, but at all other times, I wear glasses because they just feel more comfortable to me.
My vision completely sucks >.<. Too much computer time haha. I'm seriously contemplating laser surgery, but unless I cut down my gaming time, it won't matter since it'll shoot back up...

Doesn't eyesight begin to stabalize after you get older and no matter how much time you spend at the computer, your sight won't get worse? At least that's what my eye doctor said.

I've had glasses since I was in the 3rd grade. Used to have big honkin' frames then, too.

Now I have these nice slimmed down frames that I would hate to replace (though the nosepads are missing, heh).

My eyes were going to be shot before computers in my case anyway. Astigmatism and near-sighted, though I had been working with a Commodore 128 and figured out how to get student copies of Win3.11 to recognize classroom printers in 2nd grade..(HS graduate of 2005 I am).

ask your optometrists to see if they can add some tint to yours *got mine with a bluish tint* It always makes your glasses look cooler :)
