In its first week in North America, Nintendogs has sold a quarter of a million copies, making it the best new game franchise for a handheld system! Could we see it dethrone Pokemon? I say so!

If a topic for Nintendogs exist, I ask that a mod merge this with it.

And they said it wouldn't sell in the USA.

I wonder how well it will do in Europe though, since its probably going to be pushed out of the public eye by massive ad campaigns from Sony now that the PSP finally is released in Europe. I guess Sony will need them though, because the PSP is selling at a

Nintendogs hasn't got that 'pokemon phenomenon' feel to it, still its nice to see a new franchise of sorts (rumoured that Nintencats are on the cards..)

I still don't understand what is so great about this game. I didn't play it yet, though.
Unfortunately i didn't get a chance to test the game on the games covention, because i went there too late :|

Nintendogs is shaping up to be a must-have title for the DS and can definitely inly improve once Nintendo offers it's online network for the DS. Whether or not it'll "dethrone" Pokemon is kind of shaky, I think, but time will tell. I'm just glad to see so many people playing it.

This game really does deserve all the hype it got in Japan. My cousin recently bought a Nintendo DS and got this game so I decided to play around with it. The A.I. on this game is simply amazing.. it's almost as if you were acually taking care of a real dog. It's also perfect for people like me who who cannot have any pets because of an allergy to dogs/cats.

wow i thought my family was crazy i bought four DS's for me and my sisters and we have been playing nintendogs non stop even my seventeen year old sister is what i would call a sony junkie wont stop playing, well in my opinion this just goes to show that nintendo cant be challenged in the handheld market.

as for it being a pokemon killer it depends on the next pokemon game the last three emerald, fire red and leaf green left most pokemon fans derpressed they need a revamp like they did when they brought it over to the gba with Ruby and sapphire and not another crappy remake.

It may not be bigger than the Pokemon craze (yet), but it certainly is catching up at a rapid rate.

It already stands as having not only a bigger launch that Pokemon, but a bigger launch than ANY handheld game. That's impressive. The sales are over a million now worldwide.

i think you should replace "pokemon" with tamagochi (maybe spelling incorrectly) ;). lol remember those days of beeping pixels wanting you to feed it, play with it (come on, most of us has owned one once ;) )....hmmm sound like nintendogs :). tamagochi craze>pokemon craze. err that just my opinion.

I think it was greater than Pokemon because it was much more affordable. You just buy that Tamagochi thing and play with it but if you wanted to play Poke'mon, you would have to buy a Gameboy THEN the game, which is easily $80+. (Don't remember the prices for games and handhelds that far back)

You know, the success of Nintendogs actually begs a question; Will we be seeing elements of a pet raising sim in some of the future Pok

He's talking about using it in the RPG Pokemon games, the ones that got Pokemon started.

It would work quite well, and add a lot more depth.

Heh... if it dethroned Pokemon, I can jsut imagine seeing a Nintendog being one of the characters for the next SSB. o_o; Scary.

Pokemon over ??
I don't think so, the next pokemon game will be sold in two months on ds, and there we will see if it's already over.
Nintendog is a good new franchise but not a phenomen(not yet??)
