I saw a site which had signature battles and believed it would be fun to try on hongfire.

Only members+ can take part in this battle and chose which is the best.
Pick any signature you have does not matter how old or new, whatever you believe will win. Max of 10 signatures or 1 per person. when the deadline is reach or when all 10 have stepped in to the ring. when bettle starts I will Start a new tread with the signature and voting.

I think there should be a poll. Well that's how signature battles work at some gfx sites I go to.

No, there should be deadlines to when sigs are due. When everyone who wanted to enter puts in their entry. Then the poll will be started. So nobody can just jump into the battle. You can't take back your vote if you see that some else's you like like more.

This is how I saw these kind of battles on other forums:

Someone utters a challenge (with creating a thread), someone other accepts it (or more, the thread-creator should specify that in the initial post). Then they agree upon a number of votes necessary to win. In the following other visitors of the thread can give a vote to one of the contestants (with a explanation why, please) simply in their posts (only one vote per member, of course), until one of the contestants reaches the necessary number of votes. S/he wins the battle.

Hm, mods can at least check suspicious persons for identic IPs, I believe (as long as those aren't using proxies). Well, alternatively it could be determined that only full members (+30 posts) can vote, that would make it more difficult for cheaters to create countless new accounts. But personally I don't think that's really necessary ... ^^;

True true. I was just trying to bring this to everyone's attention because it really isn't fair if a person wins because of cheaters. But I think HongFire is a great community overall so maybe it'll be alright.

I believe it would be best to set a deadline so it will be 1 days form now at 2:00 pm (GMT-8:00) Pacific Time, all after that will not be in the battle.
Form then on people can come in and pick which one they believe is the best and give reasons. Until then signature may be changed.

If it helps any, I used GIMP to make my .sig. There are a ton more tutorials for photoshop than GIMP, but that doesn't mean you can't make something that looks good without it :D

You might want to consider making a thread in Creative Corner posing this question. I'm sure you'd get more answers since there's more people that look at the CC section than actually look at this thread. It would also help other people who are wondering the same thing to have a thread that answers their question instead of having it disappear on this thread once the page count grows.

Would be a shame if these battles ended so soon after getting started...it's a good idea and gets people to be creative...sort of an incentive.

Hahaha...I wouldn't take it as being schooled...more like people already seeing yours and wanting to see someone else win. I kinda liked your idea of keeping the winners out of subsequent matches and just having one battle of champions, but whatever :D

The main reason I suggested 1v1 is that since it would involve 15 total battles, the voting section of the "battle" would last longer, and allow some time for more people to become interested in the thing :D You could cut it down a few battles probably if you wanted to. (call it 4 pools of 4 .sigs each. Winner of A pool fights winner of B in a "semi-finals". C fights against D. The two semifinal winners pair off. Only 7 battles this way, 8 if you want a fight for third place XD)

Of course since we're waiting on enough interested people to enter the battle -_-;;

Ah well, hopefully we'll get some more interest soon

edit: if you wanted to test things, omega, you could run with just 8 contestants in one on one battles to see if you like the format...

I`ve got an idea on how to increase voting and contestants: Some people (including me ;p ) have whined about the limits HF puts on sigs and how the file size isnt enough if you want to make a decent animation on your sig. Well what if we could get a mod or an admin to bend these rules abit? Say, if you win the monthly sig-contest, you get to use bigger sigs for a month? Just an idea :D

well we are talking about signatures so I believe it would be best if we kept in within the zone of max "700x150".should you go over the problem is not that I will kick you but when it comes to voting people may vote for you less because of it.
