View Full Version : Azureus & gray colored seed
i got that problem, the download are very slow even most the time less than 1kb and when i check on the swarm page the seeds are all in grey dot
does anyone know what this means?? is this means there are connection problems or is it the seeds are kinda busy or could there be something else?

From the azureus Wiki itself :
The fullness of the pie does indicate the percentage of the torrent already possessed by that peer. Empty means none (or almost none), full means all (or nearly all). (A pie doesn't give much resolution for showing small numbers - it may be hard to distinguish 0.01% from zero.)
Gray and blue on the pie mean the same thing that they do on the Peers tab: a gray client is being "snubbed". This means that the last time Azureus requested a piece from that client, it came very slowly (in fact, it might not even be done yet, hence you will still see it moving); hence Azureus will put them towards the bottom of the list of clients to consider when asking for the next piece.
Finally, I think the swarm page will show packets moving even for overhead communication, like "I have pieces x,y,z available -- want 'em?" or "Sorry, I'm too busy - I'm choking your request for now". Not sure though.
Azureus Peer Snubbing
When Azureus snubs a peer, it is because that peer told us it was going to send us piece data, and never did (or is doing so too slowly). Peers have 2min to send us 16KB of data, or else they get snubbed. A snubbed peer isn't completely ignored however. When Azureus snubs a peer, all outstanding data requests are canceled, EXCEPT FOR ONE REQUEST. This allows Azureus to ask other sources for that data, while it waits on the snubbed peer to finish sending that original data. If/when that snubbed peer finally sends the data it said it was going to send, it will automatically become unsnubbed.
Why is it not sending the promised data? Most likely reason is simply a mis-configured seed client: it's probably uploading to too many peers at once with only limited upload capacity.
So..prob one of your settings isnt right, it is a seed/torrent with a lot of leechers and few seeds, so its still has to "reach cruise speed"
Or u have only just begon dl/ul it...give it some time, if it doesnt get better, ask us again ;)
i'm downloading it right now and there seems not much leecher because there are only 1 peer at the moment with 65% completed and im the latest downloader of it, most the time there are 2 seeds and some people with completion over 50%
right now the total seed/peers are even only 1 seed and 2 peers :( could this be NAT prob?

so in other words you mean that if it's not me then the other possibilities are that the seeds is being leeched to much and is too busy to get me the data isn't?

kinda..if this is the case, its generally best to just "hang in there"
If you already have some pieces of the file and you upload those, the other clients will start to send more to you over time....
many clients do this to avoid pure leechers....
Also : how many seeds and how many peers are there ?
If there are only a few of them that might explain some part of it also.
Is the torrent on a private tracker ? if it is and u havent registered to it, this would explain why you are getting snubbed by the other ppl.
A NAT problem could also be a probability, if this is the first time u download a torrent with this client. If u are using a client u used before, and those torrents worked...u can pretty much rule out a NAT problem.
nah been using this plenty of times before, im sure it's not a private one since the status is OK

one problem is im' the one with least completion so in any way it would be me that has to leech :D lol
what confuses me most is that i've put this torrent to download only some specific files (hoping it will be faster :D) but it turned out when i tried to download a new files from it, it goes fast then in the middle it stuck like the rest (watching the swarm page the rest of the peers started to load me with data then in the middle it just happened like the rest no one sends me anythin but im rather still connected to them, it's just idle which i assume from the peers side they likely to have the same problem with me :o )

Hmmmm, and there arent many seeders/peers right ? ..... probably this torrent is new or is only recently being reseeded.
If this is the case, many clients like Azureus, especially when using superseed mode, will try to spread the uploaded pieces to as much leechers as possible, if u get what i'm trying to say....
That way these leechers are forced to share with each other, decreasing the stress on the seeder(s) and in the long run increasing the upload/download speed of all peers....
and u are sure the tracker is OK ? ..... look to the color next to the torrent in the main window..is it green , blue or red ?
oh cool i think it's getting better now, the seeds turns blue again and start sending in KB i guess it does just like u said the matter of time :D .... thx for your help ^^

NP
remember : if a seed is new it takes some time to get to a good speed.....unless the ppl seeding have a tremendous UL-speed...but thats rare....
also : every torrent will reach its top speed in the middle ( arround 30-40 till 70-80 %). so dont worry, often just giving it a little more time will do the trick ;)
Enjoy your torrent ;) , Draco888.
