i have a problem with ikaruga. i finished the game and when i go to conquest or practice i cant choose Chapter 4or5 and it keeps saying you have not reached the stage why is it like that?
btw since i was so desperate to get the game i bought the PAL version. is that the reason?

you need to finish that stage without using a continue to get it to open up in practice i think.
thats annoying i need to practice so that i CAN finish the level without using a single continue and without losing a single life. restarting the whole game just to practice a single chapter is extremely annoying
and i unlocked chapter 3 while using continues (i think)

just looked up a FAQ. it says you have to reach a stage without continuing to unlock it in practice. if you die in that stage, you still unlock it.

btw this is the best shooter i have ever played in my long 10 yrs of gaming and playing shooters. maybe radiant silvergun is better cause i never had the chance to play it.

I had the same problem.
But I finally got stage 3 open earlier today...good...I need to practice.
This game pwns unbelievable ammounts of ass; im glad people on this forum recognize it.

It took me a long time to get to chapter 4 without losing a continue (imo, chapter 3 was hardest level for me), very hard game :)
if i remember correctly, the only difference in the PAL version between the others is that the first level boss has a glitch in it where your missiles would aim for the 2 satellie things instead of the boss.
yeah it pisses me off all the time. the misses always shoot the satelites and leave the boss. i tought it was suposed to be like that.
anyways now i have to finish level 4 without dying which is extremly HARD cause level 4 is te hardest chapter i have ever played and i have to practice alot in conquest mode.
and getting to stage 4 wasnt that hard the only time i died in that stage was that mini boss before the stage boss, i just have to lose at least 3 machines before i kill him.
and why is the text in the game isnt traslated i rember playing the DC version and before each stage there was some text written. and i remeber reading something about the japanese version hvaing an edning cutscene or some story in the game unlike the english version where the story is only written in the first page of the manual.
its a good thing to see that there are ppl that actually like ikaruga.

you can actually get through the whole game without killing an enemy. just fly, dodge and survive till the time is up. although i don;t know if it will count towards unlocking the stages in practice.

it does actually, but avoiding the shots (especially in 4&5) is RIDICULOUSLY hard ^_^
and you get a special message for avoiding all and not firing a single shot on each level, but i don;t know about for all 5 ^^ maybe you get extra special mode... :eek::p
somehow i doubt though. great game ^^
lol yeah before i was wondering about it and what would happen if i didnt kill a single enemy and let the boss escape, tried it and got a ranking called 'Dot Eater' or 'Bullet Eater' or somthing like that. that mode is fun but its more fun to blow enimies and get chains.

yeah, i think you get the title 'Dot eater'. I've never tried it before, i like to rack up as much points as possible (though i seem to lose my chain/combo ability half way through level 3, where i fail miserably)
Great game, i got to play it again on Tuesday when i finish my exams
Practicing chapter 4 by getting all the chains and not dieng is HAAAARD its driving me insane but even while im doing that im not getting bored of the game, and thats something that most shooters dont have in them.
a warning thou playing ikaruga may be result in the death of your brain cells and you may forget what you studied. please consult your doctor before playing :p .
btw chapter 3 is the hardest chapter to chain in.

yep, chapter 3 is really hard to chain, i start to lose my chains when the black and white ships starts coming from me at both sides towards that narrow gap.
i saw some professional videos on that part and he got every single ship and chained them! i was gobsmacked.. im so crap at this :P
lol those videos make you feel nothing compared to them so i dun advice you to see them all.
i got one for chapter 4 and what i first said was WTF???
btw what do think if i made a topic for the scoreboards so ppl can post their scores?
