0_0 I have got many Japanese contacts but this parade sure is weird. Never heard anything about it. Normally the Japanese tend to be kinda closed towards sex. They do have more sexual and wacky related shows etc then compared to the Western World. I believe this parade has like said smoething to do with fertilization. There more rituals like that elsewhere too mostly with flowers etc.

EDIT: Looks like the reason is from old times when workers used the temple to pray not to get syphilis and from that this festival started. It is now considered good luck, good family etc to embrace one. :D

I think this is because otakus have come to believe the myth that women enjoy sex as depicted through doujinshi, bishojo, and hentai. Also this happens because asian women in general are submissive and don't report sex crimes (especially that .gif of a pedestrian with her panties pulled down probably didn't go through the hassle of reporting it.) same would go for ass-grabbing on crowded trains.

Actually, most asian cultures have these fertility worshipings, except most of them down use a giant penis with such detail. Most just put a big long rock sitting on on the ground at Temples and people just go there and pray for pregnancy.

I say good job! The penis/reproductive system does need to be celebrated cause it is a rather fantastic thing! I'm willing to be that, generally, they mave much more repect when it comes to sex/reproduction than, say the US. I mean, we've got 13 year olds having kids and shit over here, and it's becoming more and more common, why; I'm willing to be it's cause they have no respect when it comes to sex; they probably learned all they know from watching some low budget porn their friends have. And let me tell you, that's a GREAT way to teach a kid about sex. At least the japanese have this festival to teach their kids if they are too scared to talk about it.
