View Full Version : Star Wars: Republic Commando
Alright, who has played the demo? Tell me, are you going to get it for the PC or XBox? :D I've played it several times already - I just love the constant action!

It's not as good as i was hoping it to be. Health is lost way too easily and cycling through weapons is kinda frustrating after a while. I wanna change INSTAAAAANTLY!! :D
I think one of the biggest problems is some weapons have veerrrry long reload animations. :(

I think the main problem is the mandatory use of pixel shader 1.1 ... My poor gfx card can't render the lighting & textures correctly :(
Otherwise, it seems like a good game ;)

Yeah, played the demo for xbox. The controls are alot like halo, though they are a little stiff. I want Unreal Championship 2 :D.

Having absorbed a great deal on the topic of special forces in the Star Wars universe (thank you, West End Games, and rest in peace), I was pleased to hear about this project. The more I read/watched about it, the more interested I became.
Then I got to play the demo. Having done so, I can say I am satisfied with the game's overall direction. Firstly, the squad AI and command system are just the things I've always wished Halo had (how many of you have wished you could have marines take over nearby turrets, for instance?); second, the weapons are plausible and quite sensible - remember, the DC-17 does represent an evolution of the modular concept embodied in things like the Steyr AUG (http://world.guns.ru/assault/as20-e.htm) and XM-8 (http://world.guns.ru/assault/as61-e.htm). So it takes a second or two to change modes; so the reload animations take time (gameplay tip: whenever you have a breather, reload)... good, they do so in real life (it's amazing how many FPSs gloss this over), and from a gameplay perspective those facts represent further encouragement to think a situation through rather than simply go in guns blazing.
I also believe they did a decent job with the characterization of your squadmates: yes, you're all clones, and yet you get a sense that they've developed their own personalities (Gamespot article (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/starwarsrepubliccommando/preview_6116079.html); Starwars.com interview (http://www.starwars.com/eu/lit/novel/f20041022/index.html) with Karen Traviss, authour of 'Hard Contact', a novel tie-in to - not a novelization of - the game). See the attachment for a humorous look at the development of Delta Squad...
From what I've seen/read in various previews, multiplayer looks functional, and I hope LucasArts will flesh it out postrelease with additional models/skins and maps, and maybe even missions quartets of players can take on as a team). They get bonus points, by the way, for making 15 tracks of the game music available on the official game site (http://www.lucasarts.com/games/swrepubliccommando/hud.html)... complete with a translation of the Mandalorian lyrics.

Its still a demo. Its like a trailer. You still don't know how the game is like.
But if I get it, it'll be for the PC.

I already played the game on PC and hell it rocks...your squad's AI is by far the best i've ever seen although sometimes they still walk straight into your line of fire...that's was stupid...
But otherwise...this is a great squad-based FPS...it IS a little too hard overall but it is still enjoyablle...

I like it.. from my experience, I don't think my squad even shot me when I walked in front of them.. some parts of the game are a bit tough.. but its an awesome game overall. Definitely worth getting if you're a Star Wars fan.

This game was beautiful I though and I enjoyed it thoroughly but it was just way too short.
